Glaicer tours We book Island Tours from Stykkisholmur. Departures 2-3 times daily. The boat sails past beautiful and majestic islands, where birds like puffins, cormorants, kitti-wakes and seaeagles nest. It takes about an hour to drive from Hotel Hellnar to Stykkisholmur.
Glaicer tours The Visitor Centre of Snaefellsjokull National Park is right next door to Hotel Hellnar at Hellnar. The centre offers education on the park’s animal life, the flora and the many volcanoes and eruptions that have taken place through the centuries.

How to get to Hotel Hellnar

The road distance from Reykjavik to Hellnar is about 200 km

Travelling time: About 50 min to Borgarnes from Reykjavik – about 1 hour and 25 min from Borgarnes to Hellnar.

Directions from Reykjavik

Take Road 1 to Borgarnes. On the way you’ll drive through the Hvalfjordur tunnel (toll gate).

As you leave Borgarnes, take the second exit from the round-about onto Road 54.

Stay on Road 54 until you come to the junction of Road 54 and Road 574. Make a left turn onto Road 574 (Utnesvegur)

Stay on road road 574 and drive for 19 km till you see the Hellnar sign. Make a left turn down to Hellnar. Once down the hill, make the first left turn, drive past the Snaefellsjokull National Park’s Visitor Centre and the church, and then make a right turn into the driveway of Hotel Hellnar.

On the way there are information signs with maps.

  1. Just before you come to Borgarnes town (on road 1).
  2. Outsite the gas-station "Vegamot" at the junction of road 54 and 56.
